How to Spot a Holiday Rebel:

You certainly won’t find the holiday Rebel doing what everyone else does! They’ll be the one engaging in alternative experiences like hiking on Christmas day, refusing to buy a Christmas tree because it’s wasteful and donating to charities instead of buying gifts. Oh, and the person who brings a vegan dish such as a “tofurkey” (that would be a “turkey” made out of tofu) to the holiday party…definitely a Rebel.

And, they’ll also be much more calm and relaxed than the rest of us!

Traits:

Holiday Rebels have freed themselves from the “holiday grind” and it’s important to them that they are participating in traditions and celebrations in ways that aren’t harmful to their own well-being, to others or the planet. Rebels are great “big picture” thinkers and want to make the world a better place. They don’t want to spoil the holiday fun but they are pragmatic and can’t participate in traditions that don’t make sense. You’ll find them rejecting the status quo and also reinventing traditions in new holistic ways.

Tips:

Hats off to you, dear Rebel! You can serve as an inspiration and voice of reason to the rest of us! Many of us have been jumping on the holiday crazy train for so long, we may have forgotten that there’s another way.

Enlighten Us!

You may have thought about some of the holiday traditions in a deeper and different way than the rest of us so it’s important that you share with us what you’re doing and why in a loving way, so that we can be inspired! And I’m sorry, but that means you have to leave your “judgey pants” at home. But yes, you can still wear them while making fun of Hallmark Christmas Movie plots.

Don’t be a Lone Wolf

Breaking from the pack can feel lonely so make sure you’re not isolating yourself too much and still find ways to engage with the joy of the season. Invite us along on your holiday hike, organize an activity to benefit a cause you feel deeply about and lead the way Rebel!

If you have a Holiday Rebel in your life:

Rebels definitely don’t blend in and that can put them on the defense. Be curious when you notice your Rebel breaking tradition, and open to listening to their “WHY”, because they’ve likely thought deeply about it. They may be able to inspire you to find new refreshing ways to celebrate this season! Even if you aren’t a Rebel too, it might feel kind of good to try it out for a minute and gain a new perspective. And no, you do not have to eat the “tofurkey”, just try to be polite when you say “no thanks”.
